Satisfaction - A Function of variables

Every one in this world is struggling for the success, happiness, including me. Everyone wants to have satisfaction , pleasure in whatever he/she does. But every time you achieve what you want , your definition of satisfaction is changed ! What might be the reason..." Ye dil mange more !"
For example, if it boils down to money, then people say that $ 100 are more than enough for a person to survive 4-5 days where as for another person the amount is not enough even for few hours ..reason is the level of comfort they want , the definition they have is different. One wants to just survive, so he needs money but for the other person, he wants to survive because he wants to enjoy, he wants to spend. "Money is just one of the means of the life and not the meaning of the life."

Same point/place can be viewed differently if you change the perspective. Some people are always happy even if they have very less, its not because they can't earn more or they are losers..but its because their definition of satisfaction is different from others. They are really happy with what they have. In other case , few people are just worried about earning and business, they dont even have time to enjoy the money they have or to spend time with their family. Are they wrong?? Well, the answer is "It depends !!" If they have that sort of definition for Satisfaction, they are getting what they want. Nobody can say / claim that they are doing strange and wrong things in the life.

Can we formualte it ?Mathematically , your satisfaction is a function of your random variables which you creat now and then. Its you who define these variables in your life. Ultimately , you are trying to optimize the function values at the end of the life in order to get the maximum satisfaction with respect to the constraints you have. Constraints such as family, money, place, Academics, profession etc. The variables might be different for all such as a good job, a good wife , good car, flat, peace, degrees of freedom ... blahhh blahhhh blahh. But as you attain a level of comfort at a particular period, you get what you had set as your optimization function target, you change your definition...you change your target. You add the variables to the equation and try to reduce the number of constraints..because you want more satisfcation .." Ye dil mange more"..

For a common man, the variables go on increasing with time..and the the optimization function value he expects goes down because the constraints go on increasing..sometimes the variables are inversely proportional, sometimes they are directly proportional.

This is all assuming is that" life is LONG..its too long, you have ample time to do the things and see the function value at the end when you stop.." But do we really stop any time and that to at our own will?? Can we gurantee that we can survive for so & so many years ...the exact number ! How many mistakes can we afford??Its neither a pessimistic view nor an optimistic view, but sometimes being PRAGMATIC gives the solution to all the qusetions. You dont under-estimate or over-estimate yourself, all you have to do is know yourself everyday!

thats a nice and thoughtful piece you have there.... though the math was a bouncer for me!... it reminded me of a steet play we had done when i was doing my masters. the theme was similar - life is a 'daud'.

i ran incessantly (may be difficult to believe that i ran but then!!!! you got to do such things in the college festival) when the sutradhaar would squeal 'dauuuuuuuuuud' the way it was in the title song of the movie 'daud' (urmila matondkar - the memory cue you may need)and then go helter skelter signifying vices such as alcohol, sex, etc.
the bottomline is 'jindagi is a daud; what you want to run for and how fast determines whether your daud gives you the orgasm of life!!!!
